I spent three days in Rome. I took on the city with full force, trying to see everything I could by foot. I found myself walking for miles, stopping for an occasional panino, gelato or any excuse I could find to eat again. Walking down a new street each time, back and forth like a maze. I did't want to miss a thing, mentally taking notes as my eyes scanned every detail. Noting the smells, the way the air feels, the way the people speak, the style of clothes they wear, the plants that grow, the color palette, the way the light falls. It's hard not to fall in love.
My sense of direction is typically spot on but I got lost in Rome. The way it should be. I had dreamt of visiting Italy for ages. Ask anyone who knows me well, I was positive that I would find myself there. The food, the culture, the way of life, one that in theory I felt resonated with me. Like all travels you have moments of clarity and true magic, other moments of exhaustion and hunger, small things that turn difficult. I fucked up on the train a couple times, cursing myself in my head. I finally got it right towards the end of my trip. I had fancy meals that were outdated and incredible simple home cooked ones. Quality found in the most modest of places. Rome I do love you, I cant wait to get back to explore more.
