We took a long weekend and traveled to the island of Curaao. JetBlue offers direct flights out of JFK airport, it's an easy four hours. If you book via JetBlue Getaways you can save lots of $$$ by booking flight and accommodations together. Not to mention JetBlue's Even More Space makes for a much more comfortable ride and a very appreciated feature for a tall girl like me who often has her legs crammed up against the seat.
Curacao is located at the bottom of the Caribbean island chain off the coast of Venezuela in between Aruba and Bonaire. Curaao is a Dutch island, four languages are commonly spoken there, English, Dutch, Spanish and Papiamento the local dialect. Willemstad, its colorful capital is a port town. We stayed at Sonesta Kura Hulanda a boutique hotel made of brightly colored 17th and 18th century Dutch architecture set along winding cobblestone streets in a historical landmark. Each room has its own unique style, two pools, restaurants and shops.
The island is on the larger side at 171 square miles. We rented a car and drove all around the island, which I recommend. We visited during Curacao's dry season, cacti cover the islands rugged landscape. The beaches along the Northwest coast are calm and beautiful, perfect for snorkeling. I heard there is quite a good diving scene there as well. We visited two beaches Playa Porto Marie and Playa Jeremi. Playa Porto Marie offers a small restaurant and facilities as for Playa Jeremi was more of a locals beach. In the evenings we ate dinner in Willemstad, I recommend Kome and Fishalicious. Thank you JetBlue for sending us on this beautiful vacation!
